Ba-Shar Basset Hound / Chinese Shar-Pei Hybrid The Ba-Shar is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Basset Hound and the Shar-Pei. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. Not all of these designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. Recognized Names: "This is our Bassett-Sharpei mix – Jed. He is approximately 3 years old and 45 pounds. Jed is a very loving & sometimes stubborn dog. He’s very intelligent and does well in his training classes. We rescued him from a shelter 1 year ago. He loves to go on walks and play with his toys. He gets along great with our other dog – Lucas (Great Dane)."
Jed, the Bassett-Sharpei mix (Ba-Shar) at 3 years old. ______________________________ Angus, the Basset / Shar-Pei mix (Ba-Shar) at 14 months old. "Everybody is constantly stopping me to ask what breed he is - he is not only a show-stopper but he is ultra-intelligent."
This is Abby, Angus' twin sister. Her owner states, "She is, as he is, also a Shar Pei / Basset mix. These dogs are smart, very affectionate, and have a great sense of humor. They can be stubborn occasionally, such as when you're trying to stop them from chasing a rabbit! I wish the breed could be made 'official' - they are fabulous companions, and a great size, not too small, not too big. The range is 31-40 pounds. Abby thinks she's a lab, and acts just like one!"
Angus, the Basset / Shar-Pei mix (Ba-Shar) puppy at 8 weeks old.
"Angus and Abby (the two Ba-Shars) were together for a weekend visit. We took a picture of the two of them, brother and sister all grown up! Hope you enjoy how well they are developing - they are now 2 1/2 years old, and full of fun and energy! (Angus is on the left, Abby is on the right)"

Mr Darcy, the Shar Pei x Basset Hound (Ba-Shar) puppy at 9 weeks old. "His mum is a tri colour Basset Hound and his dad a lilac Shar Pei. At the moment he has short legs and wide shoulders like a Basset. He is a little long in the body, but not overly. He has a very typical Shar Pei face with eyes, muzzle and ears all typical of a Shar Pei. He sits to eat (very much like my Basset Hound! ) but has been quickly house trained (unlike a Basset but very much like the cleanliness of a Shar Pei! )"
Princess the Ba-Shar puppy (Basset Hound / Shar-Pei Hybrid) at about 13 weeks old. "She loves to sink her sharp little fangs into anything she can get hold of. This includes everyone’s ankles that gets near."
Princess the Ba-Shar puppy (Basset Hound / Shar-Pei Hybrid) at about 13 weeks old.
Bailey, the Ba-Shar (Basset Hound/Shar-Pei hybrid) puppy at 12 weeks old. "Every time we go to the dog park at least 3 people ask me what kind of dog she is. She’s affectionate, curious, and loves to chase dogs chasing tennis balls. I can’t convince her to chase her own tennis ball but she loves chasing other dogs. It took a while but she’s finally grown into her body and a little into her head."
"Bailey, the Ba-Shar, attacking her camel, which she subsequently wrestled with for so long, she tore its throat out. When I took her to PetSmart to pick out a toy she picked out a toy the same size as her and now we just replace it with a new one, she loves it."
"Bailey the Ba-shar hybrid at 2 years old, weighing 35 pounds. It looks like she’s staying that size."
