Labrador Retriever / Toy or Miniature Poodle Hybrid

The Miniature Labradoodle is not a pure bred dog. It is usually a cross between the Labrador Retriever and the Poodle; a Toy, Miniature or a small Standard Poodle. However there are two different ways breeders are breeding the Mini Labradoodle.

1. Some Miniature Labradoodles are being bred as a first cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Miniature Poodle. Some have Toy Labradoodles. These two smaller sizes of Labradoodles are achieved sometimes by surgical insemination or artificial insemination, but not all breeders perform this method of breeding. The resulting puppies may or may not be miniature in size. The theory is that they will be somewhere in-between the miniature poodle's size and the Labrador Retriever's size.

2. Some breeders are producing a much smaller Labradoodle by adding in a third breed. By first downsizing the adult breeding female Labrador Retriever. Some breeders have crossed a Labrador Retriever with a Cocker Spaniel to produce a smaller dog. They are then taking the Labrador / Cocker female and mating it with a Miniature Poodle, either by natural breeding or surgical / artificial insemination. The puppies are ½ poodle, ¼ Labrador Retriever, ¼ cocker.

The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. Ask the breeder you contact which method of breeding they used to produce the Mini Labradoodle. Not all of these designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses.

There are a few different ways breeders are producing Labradoodles. F1 = 50% Labrador and 50% Poodle - This is Lab to poodle cross, this is first generation, resulting in healthier offspring! Hair type can be smooth like a Lab, wirey look like a Irish wolfhound or Wavy/shaggy, they can shed or not shed, pups in the same litter can vary. This is not the best cross for people with severe allergies. F1-B = 25% Labrador Retriever and 75% Poodle (F1 Labradoodle and Poodle cross) - This is Labradoodle bred back to Poodle, Wavy Curly shaggy look doodle very consistent in coat types. F1B is the MOST likely of any to be non shedding and Allergy friendly then ANY doodles and is the easiest coat to take care of. F2 = F1 Labradoodle and F1 Labradoodle cross - this combination you get the same percentage of Lab Poodle mix as you would an F1 Labradoodle so they are more likely to shed. F3 = F2 Labradoodle and F2 Labradoodle cross Multi-generation = F3 or higher generation Labradoodle and F3 or higher generation Labradoodle cross - This is what the Australian Labradoodles usually are
Height, Weight	Standard: Height - 22-24 inches (53-60 cm.) Standard: Weight - Female - 45-60 pounds (20-27 kg.) Male - 55-77 pounds (25-35 kg.) Miniature: Height - 17-22 inches (44-56 cm.) Miniature: Weight - 30-50 pounds (14-25 kg) Males being the larger.
